Biography

  • Théologien muʿtazilite et adepte de l'école de droit šāfiʿite.- Né à Bagdad, il est ensuite appelé par le ṣāḥib Ibn ʿAbbād à Rayy où il est nommé qādī en chef de la province.- Lorsque qu'Ibn ʿAbbād meurt, il est déposé et arrêté par le souverain Faḫr al-Dawla pour avoir été méprisant envers son défunt bienfaiteur.- Il est une des figures majeures de la dernière phase du muʿtazilisme.- Ses opinions sont transmises à la fois à travers ses ouvrages et des écrits plus tardifs

Biography

  • Muʿtazilite theologian, a follower of the Šāfiʿī law school.- Born in Baghdad, he was then called to Rayy by the ṣāḥib Ibn ʿAbbād where he was appointed chief qādī of the province.- When Ibn ʿAbbād died, he was deposed and arrested by the ruler Faḫr al-Dawla for a slighting remark he made about his deceased benefactor.- He is a leading figure in the last phase of Muʿtazilism.- His opinions were reported both in his own works and through latter Muʿtazila's writings
