Summary

من أمهات كتب التراجم وأصل من أصول التاريخ اﻹسلامي، وقد ترجم فيه المؤلّف لعدد كبير من الصحابة رضوان الله عليهم، كما جمع فيه من صَحَّت صحبتُه للنبي صلّى الله عليه وسَلَّم. وكان منهج المؤلف فيه أن يذكر اسم الصحابيّ ونسبته وشيئًا من سيرته وما وقع له، ووفاته وعمره، وقد يذكر بعض الأحاديث التي رواها هذا الصحابيّ عن رسول الله صلّى الله عليه وسَلَّم. وقد رُتِّب الكتاب على حسب ترتيب الحروف عند أهل المغرب، وقد اعتمد على هذا الكتاب أغلبُ من أَلَّفَ في الصحابة بعد ذلك، مثل ابن الأثير، وابن حجر العسقلاني وغيرهما.

Summary

It is considered one of the main sources of biographies and one of the most important references of Islamic history. Indeed, the author has mentioned the biography of many of those who are recognized as companions (ṣaḥāba). The author has adopted the approach that he has mentioned the name of the Companion, his ethnicity and some information about the date, place and circumstances of his birth and death. Also, he has been able to mention the hadiths reported by this companion after the Prophet (peace be upon him). The work has been arranged in Moroccan alphabetical order. Many of those who wrote about the biographies of the companions, such as Ibn al-Aṯīr, Ibn Ḥaǧar al- ʾasqalānī and others referred to this work.

History of the work

عمل موسوعي في تراجم الصحابة ، جمع مؤلفه قرابة (3500) ترجمة، اعتنى بجانب الروية الحديثة فيذكر في ترجمة الصحابة من يرون عنه، قال عنه ابن حزم في (رسالة في فضل الأندلس وذكر رجالها) إنه:"في الروايات والسير والمصنفات من الصحابة رضي الله عنهم، والتعريف بهم؛ وتلخيص أحوالهم ومنازلهم؛ وعيون أخبارهم على حروف المعجم، اثنا عشر جزءا"
