يتناول هذا الكتاب الأحكام المتعلقة بانتشار الطاعون وبالأوبئة عامة، والمؤلف محدث وفقيه حنبلي ويعتمد في أسلوبه على الحديث والآثار. ويبدأ الكتاب بمناقشة كلامية مختصرة في مسألة "السببية" وعلاقة الأسباب بنتائجها. ويميل فيها المؤلف إلى رأي الأشاعرة القائل بأن علاقة النتائج بالأسباب ليست مباشرة أو راجعة لطبيعة السبب ذاته، ولكنها معلقة بإرادة الله تحقيق النتيجة. ثم يتعرض الكتاب في فصوله اللاحقة لما يجب على المسلم أن يعتقده ويفعله في حالة تفشي الطاعون أو الوباء، وفقا لما ورد في الأحاديث والآثار المروية.

Summary

This book covers the rulings related to the plague and the epidemics in general. The author, who is a Ḥanbalī jurist and traditionalist, relies mainly on prophetic traditions and narrated reports. The book begins with a summarized theological discussion on the concept of "causation", and the author holds the Ashʿarī doctrine of ""occasionalism", meaning that the relation between result and causes are not determinant, and it is conditioned by the will of God to create the expected results. The book in the following chapters discusses what the Muslim should believe in and do during the time of plague or an epidemic.
