يعتبر هذا الكتاب رابع الصحاح الستة في الحديث النبوي، وقد ضمَّن الترمذي جامعَه كلَّ حديث احتجَّ به بعض الفقهاء في بعض الأحكام، وسمَّى مع كلِّ حديث مَن احتجَّ به من أهل المذاهب، مع ذكر ما عارضه به الآخرون. ومن ثمَّ، كان كتابه من أهم المصادر لدراسة الخلاف بين المدارس الفقهية المختلفة.
